This coffee comes from Kasama in the Northern Province, nestled up against Tanzania. Kateshi Estates was formed in 1974 with the goal of promoting the Zambian coffee industry. Today the estate has focused on improving the lives of the farmers by providing housing, medical services and an 800 student on site school. Kateshi has also been focused on gender equality and has made great strides in assisting and promoting women farmers.
This coffee is classified as Mbuni A, or Natural Gold. The ripe cherries are hand-picked and hand-sorted, then dried in the sun on traditional African raised beds. The Mafinga Hills are home to the country’s highest peaks, where altitude and volcanic soils help produce the deep body and rich chocolate flavor notes. In addition, the natural processing brings out distinctive tropical fruit flavors. This is a coffee that should be enjoyed slowly, like on a Sunday morning with a crossword puzzle and a cinnamon roll. Yummy!
